My favorite gifts

Friday, December 31, 2010

I love making gifts for people, and I love wrapping gifts for people!  These might be my favorite thus far.  I put together these mini accordian books for our family members with pictures of the boys from throughout the last year.  When I came across this brown paper bags in my craft supply, I knew they'd be perfect.  I just love how it all came together.

Bathing Beauties

I realized it had been a long time since I got pictures of my boys in the tub, where, in my opinion, they just look so stinkin' beautiful!  I had some fun editing these. I love both of these, but N, oh my gosh!  He looks like a Gerber (or maybe Johnson's?) baby!

Step back ladies...

He's alllllllllll MINE!

Visit with Santa

We took the kids to see Santa.  From around the corner, Nolan could see a little children's sized snowman chair, and he was very excited!  Then, he saw Santa's hand reach out and move the chair!  Excitement and wonder was painted all over his beautiful little face.  I had a tough time holding him back.  A moment later, it's our turn to see Santa!  So the boys go running excitedly in, and then stop dead in their tracks.  Nolan looks horrified.  Ethan looks excited and nervous.  After a few minutes of talking, Nolan exclaimed "Guitar!" Santa asked what he wanted and Ethan stood there, playing with his hands in his mouth (as he does when he's excited and/or nervous!) and eventually sat next to Santa in the chair for the picture. Nolan opted for that snowman chair he'd had his eyes on from the get-go!

Christmas Card Shoot

Thursday, December 30, 2010

I'm really behind!  I'm posting stuff from almost a month ago that I just couldn't keep up with!  So the day after our airplane shoot, we went to a nearby park for our Christmas pictures with our best buds, the McG's.  It was F-R-E-E-Z-I-N-G.  Seconds before beginning to shoot, poor B fell flat on his face!  So we switched things up and photographed my kids first.  They were surprisingly agreeable.  Hubby dancing and jumping behind me had something to do with that!

E is so excited watching his Dad, look at his little stance, it kills me!

And here was our winner, happy and excited but not OVERLY so:

A few more I love:

N fell about 10 seconds later:

Okay, now we're on to our best buds.  M and E are just a few months apart, B and N are almost exactly a year apart.  They truly are best friends and my boys just love them to pieces!  M was really working to make his Mama proud and get some good pictures, B was cold and had just fallen and just wasn't his normal happy self!

C'mon B, just stand next to me and smile:

Okay, you wanna do this the hard way?:

And now he's just thoroughly hurt that his brother won't cooperate:

Okay, better, they're both smiling:

Uncle C was called in to do a song and dance, and we got a winner (gosh they are cute)!!

BONUS!  We managed to get a great group shot!

And here are a few fun ones of the boys playing around before they decided they'd had enough of the cold:

I just love this one, seeing these boys running around playing together makes me so happy.  I've been friends with their parents for something like 18 years, and now we've each got 2 boys that are great friends, it's almost cosmic!

Annddddd, it's time to go!

Daddy's Christmas Surprise

I saw a shoot by a photographer that I really like, it included tin airplanes and a suitcase that we happen to have at home. So it gave me the idea to do a shoot including them as a gift for Hubby, an aviation enthusiast.  My friend Hana invited us to use her home studio for the shoot.  I wasn't sure how the boys would do.  All the big lights and reflectors are very tempting to pull and prod, and would they really want to sit still and smile?!!  Well, this is how it started:

There are quite a few that look like this:

Okay, 1 out of 2, we're off to a start:

Ethan's smile is holding strong, but Nolan is on the move:

Let's try sitting them on the suitcase:

Oh look,  Ethan has an eye:

Nolan decides to kiss his big bro:

That wasn't enough loving for his taste:

Ethan looks appreciatively at his little bro:

And finally, we've got a winner!

Hubby loved the photograph, I made a 10x10 print and put it in a really pretty yellow frame.  It looks great! Thank you Hana, for letting us use your space, for pretending to eat my head with puppet (how else do you think we achieved these smiles?), and for letting the kids ransack Pete's toys!

And a few more fun ones:

Ethan's about to fall backwards into the backdrop:

I'm not sure what's going on here, but I LOVE it:

Sweet little Nolan:

I struggled with editing these.  I envisioned making them a bit antiqued not really b&w or sepia but just sort of faded and worn, but never found a way to do it that I loved.  Actually, I got asked a lot about how I coordinated the boys' outfits and design for the Christmas card.  It all started with this hat.  I wanted an old style hat for Ethan for these airplane photos that were supposed to look old.  I could only find a gray hat, then the red and gray shirt and red sweater were picked to go with that and the rest of the card design followed suit!

Christmas Card

Wednesday, December 22, 2010

Here it is! I was so excited about our Christmas card this year, I just love my boys' expressions in this picture.  I designed the card myself in Photoshop and I'm pretty proud of it! I'm still working on some more cute pictures from that day, I'll post in the next few days.  Merry Christmas!!

All the grandkids...

4 children. 2 infants. Indoor lighting.  OMG... what was I thinking!!!!

That's what was going through my head as I made my way over to my girlfriend's house to take pictures of her kids and nephews.  I mean, I haven't learned how to use my flash yet!  I'm lucky to get my 2 boys looking at me, nevermind 6! For real!!!  But, considering all of the above, I think we did pretty darn good.  The kids were so fun and agreeable.  I hope these very special grandparents are happy with their Christmas gift ;)

And a few fun extras:

Baby, it's cold outside.

Friday, December 10, 2010

We didn't last long today, 20, maybe 30 minutes.  But you know when your kids just NEED to get out and blow off some steam?  We bundled up today and did just that (and I also got rid of my frozen pumpkins and droopy cornstalks).  I didn't take pictures of those, but I got these two of my precious love-bugs.

My sweet, wild boy:

I love his face in this, like "Seriously, Mom? You're taking a picture of me looking like THIS?!"

That's red paint on his nose from our morning project, it took most of the day to get it off!

Lost and Found

Wednesday, December 8, 2010

I was going through some old photos for a project I'm working on, and came across this one I took of E in July. I took it one day while bribing him with pez to sit and smile and let me drag him all through the yard.  I just love his dirty little boy summertime feet! I must have not thought it was very good at the time, but after some tweaking, I'm so glad I stumbled upon it. It helps that I'm learning more and more about editing.  He's not so... well... green anymore!  We don't need any grinches here, especially during this season ;)  I thought it would be fun to show, check out the before and after!

It's killing me!

Friday, December 3, 2010

I took pictures of my boys today for our Christmas card.  It is killing me not to share the pictures now!!  BUT, I'm a stickler when it comes to this, I want the first time people see it to be when they open their mail.  Boy, it's hard this year!

Mr. H

Sunday, November 28, 2010

Okay, so I mentioned I got to photograph the children of my two oldest friends recently.  Kristie and I met in kindergarten!  Without revealing my age, I can say that that was a LONG time ago.  It's really special to still be so close and to see each other's children grow.  Lucky for me, I get to capture it along the way :)  We had some holiday fun, in the coziness of Christmas jammies.
