Mr. H

Sunday, November 28, 2010

Okay, so I mentioned I got to photograph the children of my two oldest friends recently.  Kristie and I met in kindergarten!  Without revealing my age, I can say that that was a LONG time ago.  It's really special to still be so close and to see each other's children grow.  Lucky for me, I get to capture it along the way :)  We had some holiday fun, in the coziness of Christmas jammies.

Bittersweet

Tuesday, November 23, 2010

Have you ever seen bittersweet?  It's this vine that has little yellow shells that open up to reveal little red berries.  It's really pretty and great for decorating for the fall season.  They sell it at farm stands for about $5 for a small bundle.  My friend Tara's mother had some on her mantle a few years ago, and when I complimented her, she told me about a spot on the side of the road nearby where she cut it from.  The next time Tara visited she made my day by bringing a bunch she had cut on the way.  Since then, every time I drive by that spot, I look, and in the two years since, I've never seen it.

Cut to the other day when I was doing some dishes and looked out my window.  I saw this:

Hmmmm.... that looks like bittersweet.  So I ran outside, and sure enough it was.  The next day, I was telling Hubby about my revelation.  He says "Oh, that stuff?  It's growing all behind the pines, it's choking out all the trees, I've been trying to get rid of it for years."  Wait... WHAT?!? This has been in my yard for YEARS and I've been looking for it for YEARS?! Seriously!  So I ran outside behind the wall of pine shrubs to see for myself.  This is what I found:

Look at this gaggle of stuff!

This mature vine has probably been working on this tree for years:

And here is one singled out stem:

I just hit the bittersweet lottery!

Miss E

Sunday, November 14, 2010

Recently, I've had the chance to take Christmas photographs for the children of two of my oldest girlfriends!  It's pretty amazing to think that I've been friends with Miss E's mom, Sara, since we were both younger than E is now! Aren't they such beauties?  I was so happy to be able to do this, here are a few of my favorites:

Morning Coffee

I thought the steam coming off of my spoon after stirring my morning coffee looked so cool, I wanted to try and capture it.  I wouldn't say this is my most impactful picture ever, but, I had fun playing :)

Max, our big and beautiful man.  Try waking up with this dude on your chest (I do).

Fall Fun

Wednesday, November 10, 2010

Looking outside my window now, I'm really missing these leaves.  Autumn is such a beautiful season, but it's also brief!  It's starting to feel like winter, and with all the leaves fallen and the trees bare, it definitely looks like it.  But, that's when I'm grateful to be behind on my pictures.  I get to enjoy it all again, looking at these pictures of E having just so much fun out in our yard.  Had I realized the lighting was so nice, I would have dressed him in matching clothes and maybe even combed his hair!

Happy Halloween!

Monday, November 1, 2010

What fun we had this year!!  The boys absolutely LOVED trick-or-treating!  E  had on a smile the whole time, trotting around in his "pony" costume.  Really, he's a cowboy on a pony, but don't tell him that.  When a neighbor said "Aren't you a cute little cowboy on a horsie!" E looked at me like the guy was nuts, his expression said  "What is this dude saying?! CLEARLY I'm a PONY!".  On our way home, I could tell he was cold, but he insisted he wasn't.  He was happy as a clam, holding Mommy's hand and strolling down the street, talking all about his evening.

N was just hysterical.  It didn't take him long to catch on at all.  He was banging on doors (forget the bell! banging is faster, and he can reach!), he was saying "Trick-or-Treat!", "Thank-you", asking for "Two! Two!", and even demanding "Change!" when he wasn't all together pleased with his selection (not that he knows the difference, he really hasn't eaten any candy to speak of!)  Needless to say, it was our best Halloween yet and just SO much fun!

Why yes, that IS a banana in my pocket!

And here is a real change of pace!  One of my nephew B, as Sweeney Todd, giving Chris a... shave?

Just another one I couldn't resist!

I have loads of images to edit, mostly of us having fun in the yard, and Halloween.  I just didn't want to wait until I'm done with them ALL to share this one of my beautiful little bugger!

And while I'm at it, I guess I better share this one, too! ;)

Okay, just one more! (I can't stop myself!)

These were taken in my sister's beautiful yard.
